Testing the 5D mark II in KLCC
Had an opportunity on my birthday to test out my new gear, the 5D mark II in Kuala Lumpur.
I think the KLCC shots has been overdone, but nonetheless it is still a very beautiful place.
This is taken from Trader hotel window. Yes, this is the view from the room. On that night, I also tried out some auto bracketing functions in the 5dm2 but this came out as my favorite as it is almost SOOC. I did a minor tone adjustment, saturation, resize and adding a watermark using photoshop.
Shot with the new 5D mark II with 24-105L IS USM
Focal length – 28mm
Aperture – F/9
Shutter Speed – 10 seconds
ISO – 50
After putting it into test, I realize that it is far from what I’ve been using in the past, the Canon 450D. Even the controls are different, the AF speed is different, shutter sound. There is so much for me to get used to and I need to start adjusting myself to suit its tempo.
(Edited 11/2/2010)
This photo below is taken the next morning. A day time photo. It’s non HDR, just a simple edit in photoshop.
Shot with the new 5D mark II with 24-105L IS USM
Focal length – 28mm
Aperture – F/8
Shutter Speed – 1/160 seconds or 0.00625s
ISO – 50

Sweyi – Shadow and Highlights
Shadow and highlight is one a very important aspect in photography. It can turn the most normal photo into a beautiful one.
The photos here stresses on the shadow and highlighted areas on her feature and clothing.
Some of the winkles are ‘CREATED’ on purpose so that the lines are showing clearly and well defined.
Attention to detail is one of the greatest skill in photography.

Sharon Chew
Sharon is a cool girl. One of the first few that I shot. She has attractive asian phoenix eyes and very good figure.
The last photo we were experimenting with colors and textures on the model. We stick meshed green paper all over the model so that we can play around with the tone. It did not come out perfectly as I picture it, but I guess it is acceptable.

The Shashinki experience
As I mention in my previous post, I would be writing a short review on my experience purchasing my new gear with Shashinki.com
I was at my hometown when I wanted to purchase the 5D Mark II, there were no shops that sell such high end camera in the area. Thus, I look at shashinki.com and was tempted to try. If I am in PJ, I would’ve just gone to YS photography in SS2 or Aver Awards which offers a slightly more attractive package.
What to do, hand itchy. I won’t talk about the price, Shashinki is a little bit more expensive than the brick and mortar shops I asked earlier in KL, but I wanted to try the experience of buying from them. It was Monday night and I am leaving to South Korea early Saturday. So I need the items quickly. I emailed shashinki asking how soon can they deliver and the owner and infamous Dr. Koh Kho King replied that they will send it within 3 days else a full refund. I did not hesitate any longer and purchase it.

New Gear
I’ve been dreaming of getting a better camera for a long time now. Finally I got it.
Received it from Shashinki a day before I left to South Korea, but until today I have yet to try it out. I will be writing a review on my experience buying from Shashinki.com soon.
This is the gear that I bought.
Canon 5D mark II
Canon 24-105L F4 IS USM
BG-E6 Battery Grip for Canon 5D mark II
LP-E6 Spare Battery
2x SanDisk Ultra Compact Flash memory 30mb/s 8GB
Phottix Super Pro UV Digital filter
With this new gear, I hope to further improve my skills in portraiture and landscape. Will be saying goodbye to my old trusty Canon 450D kit soon.
Now I also need to do more job to cover the cost of this monster. The damage is damn high.

Jeju Island
I was traveled to South Korea with my girl friend and just got back last week. One our first day, we arrived at Incheon Airport in Seoul, visited a few place before we took another flight to Jeju Island. I really enjoy Jeju Island and highly recommend it to anyone who is going to Korea. The island is full of scenic landscapes, fresh air and peace of mind.
This photo is taken half way up Sangbansang, we did not have enough time to get to the top, but half way is enough to get such a spectacular view.
A place that I missed is Hallasan, it was closed due to the heavy snow. Public transport could not get close enough to the peak because it is too dangerous.
And finally, this is me sending my greetings while enjoying myself.
